We will fish the Ramapo on Saturday afternoon May 18th. The recent rain should improve conditions but the hatches have not been great. I hope that the light cahill’s will be coming off in good numbers. Be prepared with flies in sizes 12 – 16. Also have a few tan caddis in sizes 14-18, sulphurs in sizes 14 & 16, some pheasant tail and hare’s ear nymphs, with and without beads, sizes 12-18 and the ever popular wooly bugger size 10 & 12 in olive and black.
We will meet at the clubhouse parking lot at the Ramapo River Reserve. This is the next bridge south of Glen Gray. From RT 202, Ramapo Valley Rd, turn at Patriots Way, go over the bridge and make the first right onto Overlook, turn right onto Hunter and right again onto Kingsley Evans. The parking area is to your left. Meet there at 2:00PM. Have waders or hip boots, sunglasses, sun screen and bug spray. A wading staff is helpful as the bottom is always slippery.
If you arrive late, follow the sign directing you to the walking path which is by the swimming pool. Follow it to the river I expect to fish downstream from the bridge. I will watch the weather. If the water levels are too high it is best to reschedule. I will send a confirming e-mail laer next week.
